Okay, so my ticket is booked, my bag is kind of packed, and all in all I can not wait for Friday night. That being said I can not believe that my semester abroad is about to begin. I found out in February that I was going to be studying abroad and man has time flown by and I know it will go even faster once I’m in Copenhagen.
It has been a bittersweet past few days. I have hated saying goodbye to my best friends from home and it is hard to watch my friends move into their housing at American University knowing I won’t be there to share their experiences this semester. It is challenging to find the correct words to describe how I am feeling but truthfully it is a combination of oh my goodness this isn’t happening and get me on the next flight. I have been dreaming of studying abroad my whole life and as someone who has only been to Canada before, I am positive this will be a totally new world. My experiences won’t be the same as those of my friends from home or school, however I am happy that I am able to support them in their new adventures from afar just as they are able to do the same for me.
My friend Emily and I are traveling together together from Boston to Iceland, then Iceland to Copenhagen so I know having her with me will make the journey slightly less intimidating. We plan on watching lots of Netflix, hopefully sleeping, and planning some trips we both want to take. There are a few places she and I have been dying to see and we are excited to be able to share this semester with each other.
I was lucky enough to be given a homestay for the semester and they seem like wonderful people. I will be about 15 miles north of the city which will be fun for me to explore. My host mom and dad have been great with communication and I am excited to meet Molly, my host sister as well. Oh! I almost forgot, they also have a dog sooo basically all is well no matter what! It has been fun picking out gifts for them and trying to think of a few items from home that really embody where I come from. I cannot wait to meet them and tell you all about the fun memories I hope to make. As somone who had foreign exchange students in my house, I am looking forward to sharing some tips and tricks on how to have a successful relationship from both sides of the aisle.
For now, I have a lot more packing to do, hours of Duo Lingo I should have completed earlier, and a few more goodbyes to say. Thanks for following me along on this journey and I will update you all again once I have safely arrived on Danish soil. Wish me luck!!
